Sorry I didnt make it clear about changing status to visitors visa. I am aware that it will not be an automatic switch.
I am wondering how difficult it is to switch to visitors visa status or to extend H1b for few months? Do people have high success rate or is it full of hassle (trying to extend stay on visitor/H1 status)?
ABIM board is an exam we take after finishing residency. I would prefer to finish it now immediately after residency.
I will try to meet up with an attorney in near future and discuss these issues, will be glad to share any new important info.

I and my husband both of us lost our passports too. We got it stamped again when we went to India. In between I transferred my h1s also with the copy of lost passport and duplicate passport issued by indian embassy ny office. It wasn't too difficult to get it stamped again from mumbai consulate india.
You might get it stamped from Canada or Mexico. We just didn't want to take risk because we had copy of lost and inside usa we could do all our work(including transferring h1s) with the copy.
Don't worry. It is not that big as it looks. Though indian embassy took 12 months to issue duplicate passport

Employment contract/non-compete is the place to look. Now, if you haven't signed any employment contract with your employer (that says otherwise)- you are good to make that change.

Are u the primary or dependant. If you are the dependant no issues cool and enjoy time with baby. If you are the primary then no issues till you get the GC. For primary it is not mandatory to work during the time 485 is pending. But once GC is approved then u need to start full time position with the employer.

When you are talking about H1 extension, you should keep in mind that there is an additional cost to get an actual visa (if you travel). Ask employer to extend H1, but be smart and apply for EAD. You never know what may happen. Employer or your job can vanish very quickly. You may not have time to wait for a new EAD. No need to jeopardize your GC by saving on EAD extension. As for AP, I do not really see a need for it if you have H1 (although you may experience difficulties with getting H1b stamp, so it may be wise to get AP just in case) or if you are not going to travel.
Gaps in EAD/AP is not a problem from GC perspective, but having a valid EAD all the time is very prudent.

Can someone who used Advance Parole to travel back to USA extend his H1.
Candidate has H1 valid while coming back and also worked on H1 after coming back.
yes, Even if you used your AP to travel back to US, you can come back and file an H1 extension.

Thanks to everyone for such rapid and helpful replies. Dbevis asked what I was trying to achieve. I should have mentioned this; I'd come across the concept of hyperfocal distance and its calculation. I realised that I had no idea what the focal length of the zoom lens is at any setting (other than at the wide-angle (and telephoto) end of the zoom scale). Having said all that, by putting in some trial numbers into the hyperfocal distance equation - representing the focal lengths at the bottom end of the zoom range and at various logical aperture settings - it turns out that the furthest hyperfocal distance I'm likely to encounter is about 10 feet. Now, I must see if theory is borne out by practice. I have had the camera 4 years now and I never seem to stop learning something more about it.

I couldn't get good rep 10-15 times i called USCIS to tell me more detail than what shows online. One thing i can think of is i was pregnant at the time of my medical and couldnt get xray done as my tb skin test showed positive.
So may be RFE for that. God Know. This waiting is killing me.

I think some doesn't really have any info due to access level (maybe) but I am certain that I read somewhere here where member(s) of this forum were able to get that information. They just said you have to keep on trying, at least that's what they did.

Set up your own company LLC. and ask them to sign corp-corp or 1099 and you be the sole owner of this company.
This way even if you dont get full time offer you can defend self employment.
W2 Contract can be a problem because of USCIS's perception of permanent job.

1) 140 MUST be approved for your 5-26-01 application with your old company.
2) With your new company, get your LC approved under PERM
3) While applying for 140 with your new company, use your old company's 140 to port your 5-26-01 priority date.
Good Luck.
PS: Murthy version is reliable compared to Khanna, it is better to apply for porting during 140 stage rather than 485 stage.
