Because of all these experiences, even when you genuinely smile or strike a conversation with a desi, he/she first suspects you to be an ammway guy. I face it everyday, being "outgoing extrovert" in nature, I tend to smile and talk to people in elevators, walkways, malls, restrooms, groceries etc... which is mostly casual fun stuff and most times desis suspect that I am a ammway guy and cut me out harshly.

1. About 100,000 or may be many times that number (I do not know) of L1 workers are brought to work to the USA? Do they realize that there is NO quota limit for L1?
2. How the L1A visa is misused in the guise of the so called "International transfer" to file for GC under EB1 category?
3 That many of the Indian / foreign firms no longer prefer to sendi their employees on H1 as they can send plane loads of L1 without any hitch?
I just wanted to share the info that I know and I am not in L1.
They started cracking down L1s long before. Denials of L1 started atleast a year before. Nowadays some companies don't even apply for L1 extension from onsite. Because they know it will be denied. They apply extensions only after candidate goes back to home country.
But let us not hate each other among ourselves between L1, H1, F1 etc. At the end anyone is applying for L1/H1/F1 because there is a provision and it is completely legal.

I wouldn't worry too much about getting a job offer before getting there. In fact I would suggest take your time to relax/look for jobs/business opportunities when you get there. You will be a PR and will have plenty of opportunities if you are not in a field requiring a license. In fact, the best part about being a PR is the doors it opens. Consider whatever interests you and makes good money!

I cannot believe there are 9 pages (and counting) worth of sentiments, because some lame talentless guy was subject to security checks at an International Airport. I'm someone who was born India, but never lived there - however I'd think there are incredibly talented Indians here in America and worldwide compared to someone who's used to blatant exploitation / sell out of Indian culture. You do not need to 'stand-up' for Shahruk Khan. Stand up for yourself, for every - everyday Indian Joe & Jane who've travelled from their hometowns to make a living and for a future. Stand up for the hero in you - not clownish make believe bollywood heroes.

His earlier statements seem to suggest they have a pretty good handle on the number of cases pending and the EB categories and chargeabilities of those cases. Should'nt they already have a pretty good handle on the demand? On one hand, Mr. Oppenheim is throwing out numbers like they've got it all figured out...and immediately after that he makes a statement which implies they haven't a clue!

Your statement completely misleads and not true.
SL Tamils are not immigrants but are the native sons of northern part of the present geographical area known as Sri Lanka. Before Europeans came more than 500 years ago to Sri Lanka, SL Tamils had their own kingdom but when finally British left, they left the Tamils land and fate with the hands of the narrow minded majority, who started to discriminate ingenious Tamils left and right.
Of course as you said, there are Indian Tamils in Sri Lanka who were taken by British to work in the tea plantations. Besides, Muslims in Sri Lanka also speak Tamil but they don�t usually associate racially with Tamils and maintain separate identity
Current issue in Sri Lanka is between native Tamils and Sinhalese. Indian Tamils factor very minimal in this conflict.
Please do some research before putting things in historical puerspective.

So, should I safely assume that you are in agreement with that part? I agree with you on one thing as in my statement I did not enlist all probable historic migrations of tamils in past for an example during Chola invasion or at the time of Prince Vijaya.. But still I would say there is a truth in my statement as tamils were never been in such a huge proportion of sri lankan population in history. Today's almost 18-20% of tamil population in Sri lanka is due to the large scale migration happened during British time period. And yes if stick to the truthful definition of "native" neither Sinhala nor tamils are the natives of Sri Lanka as both ethenic groups have been migrated from India to Sri Lanka at some point of time in history. And we can not change the definition of "native" in every century. Can we?:)

And then in about a week's time, it will all die and no one will bother about this memo. We will "accept" whatever is offered to us. But I am sure within the next week, you can see 10 different threads with people talking about stuff such as "Gandhigiri", "Flower" campaign, "Hunger Strike", "Lawsuit", "Email Campaign", "Letter Campaign", "Phone Campaign", etc.....Don't worry, nothing will materialize and all these will die down. We as Immigrants have learned to accept everything and never fight back :)

I think it should be based on how long they have paid tax (say 5 years). For example, for those who have been legally working for more thena 5 years and paid tax during the period, with labor and I140 approved, they should allow them to file I485 right away. :D
I always feel allowing illegals become legals is a huge advance for them. For legal H1Bs, the only advance of similar magnitute is giving them GC without any delay (at least within a timeframe comparable to those illegals becoming legals).

I can Understand your frustration in this matter. Before blaming on the H1B Quota, we need to think of the grand schema in which this happens. USA is now well known as the only superpowerin this world. Lets take the example of the super-powers in history, Rome and Britain. As Ravi Batra in one of his books said,both of them had some common factors being a super power
1) Military Power: Both these empires had the best Military in the world. They could use the military to make many of their provinces and colonies to accept their terms in doing business
2) Both Rome and Britain used to run on trade deficits. This is because, every other countries( or colonies) were producing goods just to be sold in these empires. Their currency was the most sought after one and powerful elites wanted to hoard as much as they can.Since everybody were having so much currency, they didnt want the super-powers currency to decline in Value( which they reinvested in rome or britain to get more)
3) Cheap Labour:Rome used Slaves to control the commodity price. The living standards of Romans were the best and people even voluntarly enrolled as slaves just to get a roman citizenship after some years.The wage of common people on Rome or Britain never rose, but so did the price of commodities. Britain didnt use slaves, but used the people from its colonies to do the work.Most of them did this voluntarily for a better pay. They used highly-skilled as well as unskilled workers from their colony with less wage to keep the price of commodity stable and cheap .They even enrolled these people to their military to fight wars.
4) Spreading of culture and language to its colonies: Youth were attracted to their culture and it was easy to spread.Elites in these countries liked it and used to send gifts to the ruling guys. Elites were able to create more jobs , to produce more goods and services for the superpowers and that kept the ruling elites to be accepted,for some posts, re-elected and even workshipped by common man.
These are the common character of an economic(military in case of rome and britain) super power. So if me or you or anyone among us fight against this cheap labour concept, we are not going to win. Its a character of this market and will continue

If congress would have done it's job properly 60 years back, there was no need of nuclear deal now. The comment you made makes it pretty sure that congress was a failure since last 6 decades. The benefits of current nuclear deal will be in next 2 decades. So what poor people of India eat in next two decades? Will you tell them that don't worry...hang on for next 20 years. Also do you know the case of Enron and how politicians of all colors made fool of people.
