I agree, you will be competing with all the illegals. But.....
1. How likely are they to file their apps on the first allowable day that USCIS will accept the applications? Not very. Most of us know what's going on and will be ready to send in our apps first. Ofcourse if some EB based guy is pottering around instead of moving fast, thats his problem.
2. How many illegals can afford the high priced attorneys? Most of these poor guys dont know to speak, read or write english, forget about filing out USCIS forms.
3. How many illegals maintain perfect records of their time and can recreate a paper trail of the time they spent in the US. I certainly can and most legal wannabe immigrants can definitely prove the time they have been here (paystubs, utility bills, credit card statements, bank statements, etc.)
The point I am making is - this is the best option I have seen in a long time. Even the stupid point based system had its drawbacks. This is unconditional. It will get vast support from the hispanic community also. The UK has the same thing. Be on a work permit for 5 years and then you are eligible to apply for Permanent Residency. I believe there is also some clause in the UK system that states that you have to have been in the UK illegally for 10 years as against 5 years for a legal immigrant. I'm sure setting the illegal bar at 10 years and legal bar at 5 would be acceptable for most people.

What will students get out of it? Their Green cards are not stuck? Are you offering them H1B visa that they desperately want? They do not care about Green cards. They only care for scholarship, a job after graduation and H1B sponsorship from the employer. You are offering nothing from this list.

DA knows that for them to win the case, they need your wife's statement on their side. And for you to win the case your wife will have to testify under oath. The attorneys are prepared on both sides to argue this case and examine and cross examine the case. Make sure you have a really really good attorney.
I hope you are telling the truth. If not why she didnt tell the police or you didnt tell police the real reason. Now the onus is on your wife to contact the police and DA and let them know the truth.

Hello Gurus,
I too have changed employer (B) from july 1st and have not yet filed AC21.
I have contacted attorney (who filed my GC and I-485) and he said he needs an authorization email from my old employer (A) to proceed further. I have asked my "A" for the authorization email and he is acting like he is not getting my emails. He is not answering my phone calls, even by mistake if he answers my call he is saying he will call me back, but never called me. i dont know whether he will revoke the I-140 which was approved in around April 2007.
I don't know what exactly I need to do in this situation like to wait for old employers' call. He was very nice when I was his employee, but from the moment I left the company, he is a changed man.
What are my best choices in this situation?
BTW, I have paid all the legal expenses for H1s and GC processing.

You may want to change your Attorney on file, you can contact some popular attorneys like Rajiv or Murthy and they will gladly help you through.

This whole spelling bee thing is the stupidest thing I have ever heard of. By any standards, it is pure and simple torture to subject the kids to memorizing thousands of words and their stupid spellings. And what use is that? Have they never heard of something called SPELL-CHECK in Microsoft Word and other email services ?
Or are they afraid that their kid will go to a job interview and someone might ask them to spell the word that no one on the planet ever uses and is only present in the Oxford Dictionary.
Those who subject their kids to such a regimented, rigorous, scripted childhood are preparing a next generation of work-force that would only know how to follow the orders and accept directions.
85 % of the fortune 500 CEOs are not MBAs. And the other 15% that have an MBA, only 3 of the 15 have done MBA from an IVY LEAGUE school.
What that tells you is that too much education and scholarly childhood increases your job security, in that sense that you will never be unemployed, but it decreases the chances that you will be on the top or you will be a billionaire.

Finally, a look at GM and Ford history from 1920 to 1940reveals the reason behind a need for a better risk assessment.
I don't see why everyone should strive to be the richest person or C-person in the world. Everyone has different value system. Some may like 9 to 5 job because they can enjoy other things in life... like lying down on beach, watching your child take first few steps, etc. Some moments never return in one's life.
I work with different Managing Directors, they earn a decent $250+ salaries but none of them even want to become CEO or for that matter any C-titled manager. I know one MD, in early 50s, who passed the C job because he wanted to go fishing with his 4 sons at his vacation home in New England... At that time he told me, "Once these bastards leave me I guess I will cherish spending time with them fishing at my vacation home more than counting big dollars in my bank account".

This is pure propaganda and the height of protectionist folly. It is the type of retrograde ideology and manipulative language that feeds the worst fears of struggling blue collar workers.
There was a piece on CBS this weekend, espousing the benefits of skilled immigration and Fareed Zakharia taking about the imperative of America having a wiser immigration and education policy if it wishes to maintain its leadership position in the world.
The fact is we are not anchor immigrants. We are JOB ANCHORS. We anchor jobs for others in America or wherever we end up. Our skills are in demand globally and those skills draw capital and investment, additionally the service sector jobs then get built around them. When Microsoft sets up a development center in Vancouver instead of Seattle, the other jobs to serve those employees are anchored in Canada not the USA. Skilled immigrants are net job creators. For most Americans our presence adds vibrancy to the economy, more jobs, more investments, more skills and more taxes and is an overall plus to competitiveness. This country has never been short of opportunity, it has been short of people to take advantage of these opportunities. None of this is refutable, and so they take the weakest, vaguest link they have to our homelands, to make a dismal case against our presence here. They are such losers, words do not begin to describe them. They are mostly offshoots of old race based organisations, now reduced to shadow tactics such as this, spreading misinformation, propaganda and vitriol. I am not so sure if the CIR bill will help us. Allowing 12+ million illegals into the same system that we are in will totally screw up our chances of getting green cards. Does the bill mention anything about increasing budget and manpower for the USCIS department to handle 12+ million potential applications? Considering that large numbers of the illegals are from a country which also has a specific country quota in the GC lines, will the bill increase drastically the number of Visa Numbers available??
This bill favors the illegals so much that even reading it makes me wonder how fair the system is to those of us who follow laws and file documents on time. What's the point? All of us should just forget about the rules and go do whatever job we want to do.

The SKIL bill also mandates the DOL to clear all backlog within 6 months. The thinking is that by the time the undocumented aliens (somehow, I do not like the word illegal) enter the pipeline, the current backlog will be cleared and all dates will be current.
Given, the uncertainity in the process right now, I still feel that CIR is the way to go. Also, if it were not for the issue of the undocumented aliens, there would have been no incentive or push to do anything about the system and we would be stuck with this system. As far as the USCIS efficiency is concerned, I would not underestimate them either, the USCIS is known to be very efficient when it needs to (prime example the spectacularly efficient and successful H1 B premium processing system) so keep the faith and help yourselves achieve your dreams :)

The thinking is that by the time the undocumented aliens (somehow, I do not like the word illegal) enter the pipeline, the current backlog will be cleared and all dates will be current.
Given, the uncertainity in the process right now, I still feel that CIR is the way to go. Also, if it were not for the issue of the undocumented aliens, there would have been no incentive or push to do anything about the system and we would be stuck with this system. As far as the USCIS efficiency is concerned, I would not underestimate them either, the USCIS is known to be very efficient when it needs to (prime example the spectacularly efficient and successful H1 B premium processing system) so keep the faith and help yourselves achieve your dreams :)

There is nothing wrong in wishing well to other fellow members on a festive occasion. Its just that its the wrong forum to do so.
And besides this thread was started by a member and not a moderator or senior IV staff, hence its his personal view so please do not accuse IV of being partial to any particular race or ethnicity.
Please don't draw this fight out of proportion and stay focussed on our mission.
Everyone has the right to speak and if other Nationalities want to wish their fellow countrymen on their festivals they should be allowed to do so. Also, under the same protection of free speech if anyone on the forum does not agree with someone's coments they should be able to rebut and criticise them.
